Most US companies that call us have the same problem: a product to ship, a local agency quote that does not fit the budget, and a worry that an overseas team means midnight calls and code they do not own. We answer both worries in writing before any work starts.
On hours, the Mississauga office runs 9 am to 7 pm Eastern, Monday to Friday. On ownership, our terms transfer the source code, design files and documentation made for your project to you once it is paid in full. On cost, you pay against milestones you have agreed to, not against hours you cannot see.
Three US rules that change what we build
None of this is legal advice. It is what we raise in the first scoping call, so the build plan accounts for it rather than discovering it at launch.
Ownership of commissioned code
US copyright law treats commissioned work as "made for hire" only if it falls into one of nine listed categories and both sides sign an agreement saying so. Software is not on the list, so code written by an outside company normally becomes yours through a written assignment. Ours is in the contract.

There is no single federal privacy law. California's CCPA applies to for-profit businesses with more than $25 million in annual revenue, or that buy, sell or share the personal information of 100,000 or more California residents or households, or earn half their revenue from selling it. We build access, deletion and opt-out flows to the states you sell into.

Do you have an office in the United States?
No. Codemites is headquartered in Srinagar, India, and has an office in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. We work with US clients remotely: video calls, a shared project board and written weekly updates.
Which US time zones can you work with?
Our Mississauga office keeps 9 am to 7 pm Eastern Time, Monday to Friday. That covers the full Eastern business day and most of the Pacific one. Our Srinagar office works 9 am to 7 pm India time, which falls overnight in the US.
Who owns the code you write for us?
You do, once the project is paid in full: the source code, design files and documentation created for your project. We keep the rights to our own pre-existing tools and libraries. Because software is not automatically "work made for hire" in the US, this is set out as a written assignment in the contract.
How do payments work?
Usually 50% before work starts, with the rest tied to delivery milestones and acceptance criteria agreed up front. Larger projects are split into more milestones.
Will you sign our NDA?
Yes. We sign a non-disclosure agreement before we see confidential material, and we leave your project out of our portfolio if the agreement says so.
